7 Questions to Consider When Buying a Mini Data Projector
There are mini projectors and mini projectors!
Mini Projectors really fall into 3 categories; Micro, Mini and “Would-Be-Mini” which are a bit bigger again, but not really pocket size.
Mini Projectors could be said to range between 20 and 50 Lumens output. This range gives a more satisfactory result in daylight and ambient light conditions but 70% or so darkness is a preferable light condition. Look for portability, many in this range do not come with a battery or battery pack especially at the higher end of the Lumen scale. The HOTSHOTS MiniMaxx at 35 Lumens is a solid contender in this Mini Projector range with 1.5 hr battery pack, 4 GB on-board memory and remote control.
Consider some of these points if you are in the market for a mini data projector:
* Is it a toy or a business tool? – Don’t go lower than 30 Lumens for business.
* Is it portable with regard to power? – True portability means battery powered or rechargeable battery.
* Is it portability with regard to size? – True portability means it will fit comfortably in your laptop bag, handbag or pocket.
* Is there on-board memory? – On-board memory is great for presentations “on-the-fly”, If you can demo your product range without having to pull out the whole laptop, cables, power supplies etc, big kudos and WOW factor.
* Will it connect to all my devices? – 3rd Party device connectivity is critical. What can you connect to and what adaptor cables are supplied to make your life easy?
*What file types will it support? – Most will handle photos, videos etc especially if through an external player but few will deal with Active formats such as PowerPoint, Excel, Word, these still need to be driven through your laptop in most cases. However, the HOTSHOTS CE-Maxx has Windows CE on board which gives it a huge advantage especially as it also packs WiFi into its 150gm package. Turn it on, point and shoot and you get a PC with WinCE desktop. Plug in a cordless mouse, try the Samsung PleoMax presenter and you have a complete presentation package that you’ve pulled from your pocket.

* What’s your budget? – $150 to $999? There are plenty of choices in between.
At this stage in the life of the Mini LED powered projector, you have to be prepared for compromise. It’s a FORM v FUNCTION exercise!
The Main question you need to consider is: TOY or TOOL?
